June is Men’s Health Month

Men's Health Month is celebrated across the country with screenings, health fairs, media appearances, and other health education and outreach activities. The purpose of Men's Health Month is to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men. Understanding the health risks for men is a crucial part in maintaining a healthy life. A few simple lifestyle changes can help address men’s health concerns including heart disease, cancer, obesity, diabetes and stroke. Recognizing and preventing men's health problems is not just a man's issue. Because of its impact on wives, mothers, daughters, and sisters, men's health is truly a family issue.

This month, we challenge all men to “Get Checked!” Men should visit their health care provider as one step in completing the June Health Challenge. The other steps in the challenge are all about consistency and are everyday steps everyone, not just men, should take to live a longer, healthier, more productive life.

Try following the recommendations made in this challenge for a month to see how much better you look and feel! Women, encourage the men in your life to take part in the challenge and men should encourage the women and children in their lives to do the same. Through accountability, we can all get closer to our health goals.
