Men's Health Month is celebrated nationwide this month with screenings, health fairs, media appearances and other health education and outreach activities. Highlighting men's health for an entire month is designed to heighten awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men. Understanding their health risks is a crucial factor in maintaining a healthy life. A few basic lifestyle changes can help address men’s health concerns, including heart disease, cancer, obesity, diabetes and stroke. Recognizing and preventing men's health problems is not just a man's issue. Because of its impact on wives, mothers, daughters and sisters, men's health is truly a family issue.

Getting checked means men should visit their health care providers as one step in completing the June Health Challenge. The other parts of the challenge are about consistency and are everyday steps everyone, not just men, should take to live a longer, healthier, more productive life.

Try following the recommendations made in this challenge for a month to see how much better you look and feel! Women, encourage the men in your life to take part in the challenge, or even make it a family event so everyone can reap the benefits. Through accountability we can all get closer to our health goals.
