Take Stock of Your Health

As this year is quickly coming to an end, what better time is there to take stock of your current health status and come up with a plan for health improvement for the New Year? One of the most important things you can do for your health is to make sure you are current on all age and gender-specific screening tests. Screenings are medical tests that check for diseases and can help doctors diagnose diseases early, when they may be easier to treat. In addition to an annual check-up and preventative screenings, flu shots and immunizations are important elements of maintaining good health.

To help you get started in taking stock of your health, download the gender-specific preventive screening checklist and check out the tips below to help you stay healthy:

  • Be physically active most days of the week
  • Eat a healthy diet
  • Avoid tobacco
  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Manage stress
  • Get adequate (7-8 hours) sleep each night
  • If you drink alcohol, do so in moderation; no more than 2 drinks per occasion

As a result of the Affordable Care Act, most health insurance plans are now required to pay in full for preventative health services, such as well visits and routine checkups, which typically means there is no out-of-pocket cost to you. Take stock of your health today by scheduling an appointment with your doctor to discuss which preventative medical screenings you need to stay healthy.
